5G network interferes with C-band satellites - Beijing Broadcasting Network suffers from 5G network interference

Test Background

The C-band satellite of a government unit of a general bureau in Beijing was disturbed by unknown interference, and various testing methods could not be used for effective investigation and positioning. There is an abnormal signal rise, and it is preliminarily concluded that the signal characteristics are consistent with the 5G signal.

Test process one:

Using the 5G NR demodulation function in the 5G NR monitoring analyzer, try to demodulate the abnormal signal next to the interfered satellite antenna, and successfully demodulate the PCI numbers of multiple physical cells

The directional antenna points to different directions to demodulate multiple cell information, point to ① direction, the PCI value demodulated by the instrument is: 197, point to the ② direction, the PCI value demodulated by the instrument is: 30 and 4, point to the ③ direction, The PCI values demodulated by the meter are: 20, 278 and 805;

Test process two:

The staff of the General Administration sent the tested PCI to the staff of Unicom. It was confirmed that 197, 30, 4, 20, and 278 were all launched by Unicom's 5G experimental base station. Later, they coordinated with a Beijing operator to improve it.

Summary:

What is a C-band satellite station? According to simple science, before the official commercial use of 5G, the operating frequency is 3.4GHz-4.2GHz, and this frequency band is used for TV program projections.

Due to the currently planned and officially commercialized 5G signal frequency allocation, the working frequency of 3.4GHz-3.6GHz is just in the C-band satellite reception extension band, while the high-frequency working range used by most of the current radio and television fields is 3.4GHz-4.2 GHz, resulting in frequency overlap and the strength of the 5G signal is much greater than that of the C-band satellite signal, so the 5G signal will definitely interfere with the reception of the nearby C-band satellite signal, causing program interference. To cause C-band interference, a band-pass filter needs to be installed on the antenna to prevent other signals from entering the receiving end.
